FAQs for MBBS Admission in Maharashtra

Here are the things you should do before you apply:

  • Passed 12th class with Physics, Chemistry, biology/biotechnology, and English as obligatory subjects
  • Minimum 50% marks in PCB for candidates belonging to the general category
  • 45% for General-PH candidates (Physically Handicapped)
  • 40% for SC/ST/OBC category students.
  • Must be at least 17 years of age as of December 31 of the year of admission
  • Qualifying NEET-UG 2026 with the specified minimum percentile

If you are qualified for the NEET UG exam and your Class 12 marks are okay, you are eligible for counseling.

  • This is a really common question, and the honest answer is it’s limited. Maharashtra has strict domicile rules for its state quota. Students from other states cannot apply for government college seats or the 85% state quota in private colleges. Your options as an out-of-state student are:

  • Institutional Quota (15%) in private colleges
  • Deemed Universities like  PIMS Loni, Datta Meghe, Wardha & Nagpur; DY Patil Pune; MGM, Navi Mumbai; and Bharati Vidyapeeth & other colleges through MCC counselling
  • NRI/Management Quota (but fees are very high — ₹27–45 lakhs/year)

So if you’re a non-Maharashtra student, deemed universities are realistically your best path.

  • No — just having a current address in Maharashtra isn’t enough. You need an official domicile certificate issued by a district magistrate or metropolitan magistrate. That said, there are different eligibility categories (Type A, B, C, D) under Maharashtra rules. Type B C covers candidates from Maharashtra who passed their 10th and 12th grades, even if they don’t hold a formal domicile certificate, under specific conditions. OCI candidates can also be eligible if they’ve passed 10+2 from Maharashtra or have lived in the state for at least 10 years.

If you’re unsure which category you fall under, it’s worth checking the official CET Cell notification carefully—the wrong category during registration can disqualify you even if you’re genuinely eligible.

  • No — that system was officially scrapped in 2020. Maharashtra now follows a “One Maharashtra, One Merit” policy. Seats are allocated purely based on the State Merit List without any regional subdivision. So whether you’re from Aurangabad or Mumbai, you compete on the same list. This approach was a significant change, and many students still get confused about it, so it’s worth knowing clearly.

Maharashtra MBBS counseling is run by two bodies depending on the quota:

  • State CET Cell, Maharashtra (cetcell.mahacet.org)—handles 85% of state quota seats in government colleges and 100% of private college state quota seats. This is the main counseling body for Maharashtra domicile students.
  • Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) at mcc.nic.in—handles the 15% All India Quota in government colleges and 100% of seats in Deemed Universities.

The entire process (except final reporting at the college) is conducted online.

Yes, Maharashtra has meaningful scholarship options:

  • Open Category: Reimbursement of FRA-approved fees for private institutes and government-approved fees for government institutes—but only for CAP (counseling) admissions, not management quota.
  • SC/ST students: Full tuition fee + exam fee reimbursement. Partial fee + maintenance allowance for OBC and VJNT students, disbursed via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Eligibility for SC/ST/OBC scholarships: Family income must be ≤ ₹2.5 lakhs (SC/ST) or up to ₹8 lakhs (OBC/VJNT). You’ll need a valid caste certificate and Maharashtra domicile. Depends on government decisions and varies time to time.

Here’s the complete checklist so you’re not scrambling on the day:

  • NEET UG 2026 scorecard + admit card
  • Class 10 (SSC) mark sheet + passing certificate
  • Class 12 (HSC) mark sheet + passing certificate
  • Maharashtra Domicile Certificate (issued by DM/Metropolitan Magistrate)
  • Caste certificate (if applicable — SC/ST/OBC/VJNT/EWS)
  • Caste validity certificate (for reserved category)
  • Non-creamy layer certificate (for OBC/VJNT candidates)
  • EWS certificate (if applicable)
  • Photo identity proof (Aadhaar, PAN, Passport)
  • Passport-sized photographs
  • Gap certificate (if there was a break after Class 12)

Missing even one document can lead to cancellation of your admission. Keep the originals and multiple attested photocopies ready well before counseling starts.
