Medical Education in India is provided by the Recognized Medical Colleges in India. All Institutions must have recognition by Medical Council of India Act. MBBS is known as Bachelors of Medicine and Bachelors of Surgery. Institutions offering MBBS Course in its syllabus are referred to as Medical Colleges. This course has curriculum with the basic and Para- Clinical Subjects like- Anatomy, Bio-Chemistry, Pathology, Physiology, Medicine and Pharmacology. It is a four and half year’s program and one year internship for students as per guideline by WHO.
MBBS in India - Eligibility for Indian Students
Every applicant having the desire to study MBBS in India is required to fulfill the minimum eligibility criterion predefined as a part of the admission process. There are some relaxation for the reserved category applicants in terms of age, payable fees, etc.
Below are the eligibility criteria for MBBS admission in India:
- Students must have completed their 10+2 (Higher Secondary) or equivalent examination from a government recognized board.
- He or she should have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology along with compulsory subject English in the higher secondary class.
- The applicants in the general category should have scored at least 50% marks in aggregate in the PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) subjects.
- Candidates must qualify the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG), with the required cutoff marks to be eligible for admission.
- Minimum Age should be 17 years old on or before December 31 of the admission year and the upper age limit is generally 25 years for the students falling in the general category.
- All the male and female Indian citizens are eligible for MBBS admission in India.
- Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and foreign students need to meet additional criteria or apply through specific quotas.
