MD MS Admission in India is a process through which eligible medical graduates can pursue postgraduate medical education in the country. MD MS is a three-year degree program that leads to the specialization of a physician in a particular branch of medicine.

The MD MS Admission process in India is conducted by Medical Council of India (MCI) and it is mandatory for all Indian medical graduates to appear for this examination. After qualifying MD MS examination, candidates can apply for MD MS admission in any of the government or private medical colleges in India.

Eligibility criteria for MD MS admission in India include having a valid MBBS degree from an MCI recognized medical college, minimum marks required in MBBS Final year examinations, and successful completion of one-year compulsory rotating internship.

Eligibility criteria for MD MS admission in India

Eligibility Criteria Eligibility for admission to MD/MS Courses shall be as per the Graduate Medical Education Regulations issued by the Medical Council of India (MCI) from time to time.

  • The candidate seeking admission to postgraduate medical courses leading to MD/MS degree must possess MBBS degree included in schedules I & II of the MCI Act, 1956 and must have completed one year compulsory rotating internship/pre-registration period after passing the final professional MBBS Examination.
  • Eligibility criteria for MD MS admission in India vary depending on the Medical Council of India (MCI) guidelines.
  • Aspirants must have completed MBBS from a university recognized by MCI to be eligible for entrance into an MD or MS program in India.
  • The age limit for MD/MS aspirants is 45 years as of December 31st of the year of admission. Eligible candidates must also have completed one year of Internship on or before March 31st of the year of admission.
  • Admission to MD/MS programs is based on the scores obtained in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) – PG, which is conducted by NBE annually.

How to Apply for MD MS Admission in India

Admission to MD/MS courses in India is done on the basis of marks secured in the NEET PG examination. Candidates who qualify the NEET PG exam with minimum required marks are eligible to apply for MD/MS courses offered by various medical colleges in India. The process of applying for MD/MS courses is as follows:

  • Research the different medical schools in India and decide which one is the best fit for you. Make sure to consider factors such as location, curriculum, and admissions requirements.
  • Check if you meet the eligibility requirements for admission to the school of your choice. Most Indian medical colleges require that applicants have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and a minimum GPA.
  • Register for and take the MCI Screening Test, which is required for admission to all Indian medical colleges.
  • Candidates must first register themselves on the official website of Medical Council of India.
  • After registering, candidates must login to their account and fill in the Online Application Form.
  • In the application form, candidates must enter their personal, academic and contact details.
  • Candidates must also upload their passport size photograph and signature in the prescribed format.
  • After filling in the application form, candidates must pay the application fee through online mode.
  • Once the application fee is paid, candidates can take a printout of the completed application form for future reference. The duly completed application form must be sent to the concerned authorities along with other required documents.

It is important to note that admission to MD/MS courses in India is highly competitive and seats are allotted on the basis of marks secured in NEET PG examination.

MD MS Admission in India for NRI Students

MD MS Admission in India for NRI students process is different from that of the general admission process. There are many MD and MS seats which are reserved for NRI students in some of the top medical colleges in India. The MD MS Admission in India for NRI students process is as follows:

  • The Eligibility qualifications for various Competent Authority quota seats are given in Appendix-I Eligibility criteria for admission on NRI Quota seats
  • Admission on NRI Quota seats shall be open only to Foreign Nationals/Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs)/Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)/Children of Indian Workers in the Gulf countries (CIWGC)/Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) as defined in regulations 6 (1)(d) & (2)(e) and 7B of the MCI’s Minimum Qualifications for Teachers in Medical Institutions Regulations, 1998 and as amended from time to time.
  • Candidates who have completed their post-graduation (MD/MS/DM/MCH) from a foreign university need to clear the Eligibility Certificate Examination conducted by the MCI.
  • The first step for MD MS Admission in India for NRI students is to take the NEET PG exam and secure a good score.
  • The next step is to appear for an entrance exam which is conducted by the chosen medical college. After clearing the entrance exam, the student has to attend a personal interview with the authorities of the medical college.
  • The final selection for MD MS Admission in India for NRI students is based on their NEET UG score, marks secured in the entrance exam and performance in the personal interview.

The test comprises of questions from subjects studied during MBBS, including Anatomy, Pathology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, and Social & Preventive Medicine.
